The following are my notes from speaking with an MIT engineer who has done a vast amount of research on the topic of cannabis as a cancer treatment. Included below are links to several doctors and protocols, and there is a lot of other information on this topic available on the internet. Because the individual who downloaded this information to us is not a licensed doctor, he was reticent about making any scientific or medical claims, so there is still research that needs to be done on this topic for this forum if anyone has the time and interest to do it. While there are many testimonials and success stories these days, we're primarily interested in the theory, rationale and scientific evidence to accompany the claims.

1. There's no question cannabis is a cancer cure, but there are some misconceptions worth researching and understanding. CBDs are NOT the magic bullet that Rick Simpson put forth with his protocol. They're excellent for seizures and other applications but don't do much for cancer. The main reason to include CBDs in medical oil for cancer is that they reduce the psychotropic effects of the Delta 9 THC. Any other benefits are probable and even likely but unknown and unproven.

2. THCA (THC acid), the raw form in the plant, is the most important component of cannabis for cancer medicine. That's why mastic juicing of the raw plant works best. Dr. William Courtney's protocol. http://www.cannabisinternational.org/video.php. Also look at Robert Melamede Ph.D. There are two main problems with mastic juicing: It requires juicing a full grown flowering plant ($1000 worth of cannabis) a day for 30 to 60 days to get an ounce of juice each day, and if you're going to grow it yourself to save cost, it will take 9 weeks just to get the first full sized plant from seed or clones, and that's too long to wait to get started (you could be finished with the treatment by then if you start it now instead of waiting 9 weeks to start). Therefore, while mastic juicing is clearly highly beneficial medicine and possibly the best regimen, it's not really a viable initial cure. Need to get the THCA another way.

3. When THCA is introduced to heat, you get Delta 9 THC which has the psychotropic effects pot smokers are looking for. That's why it's smoked, and that's why it's cooked at a certain temperature and made into a butter to make psychotropic edibles. If you just eat the raw THCA you don't get high. But that's where the most important cancer medicine is.

4. Almost all extraction processes for oils use heat, which converts the THCA to Delta 9. Most extraction processes use high heat, which converts nearly all THCA to Delta 9. The key is cold extraction of the THCA, starting well below ambient temperature and working up to it, rather than increasing temperatures above natural levels. The ideal medicine is a complex blend of THCA, Delta 9 and CBDs, with as many different cannabinoids as possible and as high a component of THCA as possible, which means the oil saw as little heat as possible in the extraction process. The ideal blend appears to be about 96% THCA, 2% Delta 9, 2% CBDs. Note: this ideal is nowhere to be found. And then supplement with juicing of other leafy green plants to get the other benefits of juicing that are missing by administration by extracted oil instead of mastic juicing.

5. Raw oil extraction is yet rare to find and very expensive relative to heat extraction because it requires higher amounts of expertise, higher cost equipment and a lot more cannabis to make it. It wholesales for $30/gram (the daily dose) and retails for $90-100/gram.

6. Treatment is 30 to 60 days. (Some sources say 30 to 90 days).

7. While a ratio of 96/2/2 as described above is ideal, it's almost impossible to make, especially while it remains entirely illegal. If you could obtain 96/2/2 you could take it daily and get the desired medicinal effects without being too high all the time. Realistically, anything that's 50% THCA content or better is what you want and will do the trick, and with the rest being Delta 9 and CBDs you're going to be unavoidably quite high from the Delta 9 throughout the 30 to 60 day treatment. Might remind you of the college days. Only difference is that you were looking for that effect back then. ;-)

8. The CBDs in the oil ameliorate the effects of the Delta 9, as does Citicoline (vitamin), which can be taken 1 hour before the oil. You'll still be high, but it can be made manageable.

9. Suppository method might be effective for the location of the cancer as well, especially colon cancer and rectal cancer.

10. THC oil helps chemotherapy and is not contraindicated. Google for it for your own assurances.

11. You will want to start out slowly and build a tolerance to the psychotropic effects. Dosage is high, about a gram a day, and it's important to work up to it. Taken improperly this treatment can put you in a rough spot. Puking on way too much cannabis is a really horrible and persistent state. Dosed correctly, though, this treatment is far less painful, intrusive and problematic than chemo. You might even enjoy the buzz some of the time, which is more than I can say for chemotherapy.

This is the download we got. If you have anything to add, please do! And if you follow the links, please report your findings in this topic thread.

I found this on The National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and The National Institutes of Health (NIH) sites:

Abstract
"One of the most exciting areas of current research in the cannabinoid field is the study of the potential application of these compounds as antitumoral drugs. Here, we describe the signaling pathway that mediates cannabinoid-induced apoptosis of tumor cells. By using a wide array of experimental approaches, we identify the stress-regulated protein p8 (also designated as candidate of metastasis 1) as an essential mediator of cannabinoid antitumoral action and show that p8 upregulation is dependent on de novo-synthesized ceramide. We also observe that p8 mediates its apoptotic effect via upregulation of the endoplasmic reticulum stress-related genes ATF-4, CHOP, and TRB3. Activation of this pathway may constitute a potential therapeutic strategy for inhibiting tumor growth."

Inhibition of colon carcinogenesis by a standardized Cannabis sativa extract with high content of cannabidiol.

Author information
Abstract
PURPOSE:
"Colon cancer is a major public health problem. Cannabis-based medicines are useful adjunctive treatments in cancer patients. Here, we have investigated the effect of a standardized Cannabis sativa extract with high content of cannabidiol (CBD), here named CBD BDS, i.e. CBD botanical drug substance, on colorectal cancer cell proliferation and in experimental models of colon cancer in vivo.
METHODS:
Proliferation was evaluated in colorectal carcinoma (DLD-1 and HCT116) as well as in healthy colonic cells using the MTT assay. CBD BDS binding was evaluated by its ability to displace [(3)H]CP55940 from human cannabinoid CB1 and CB2 receptors. In vivo, the effect of CBD BDS was examined on the preneoplastic lesions (aberrant crypt foci), polyps and tumours induced by the carcinogenic agent azoxymethane (AOM) as well as in a xenograft model of colon cancer in mice.
RESULTS:
CBD BDS and CBD reduced cell proliferation in tumoral, but not in healthy, cells. The effect of CBD BDS was counteracted by selective CB1 and CB2 receptor antagonists. Pure CBD reduced cell proliferation in a CB1-sensitive antagonist manner only. In binding assays, CBD BDS showed greater affinity than pure CBD for both CB1 and CB2 receptors, with pure CBD having very little affinity. In vivo, CBD BDS reduced AOM-induced preneoplastic lesions and polyps as well as tumour growth in the xenograft model of colon cancer.
CONCLUSIONS:
CBD BDS attenuates colon carcinogenesis and inhibits colorectal cancer cell proliferation via CB1 and CB2 receptor activation. The results may have some clinical relevance for the use of Cannabis-based medicines in cancer patients."

Abstract
"The medicinal properties of extracts from the hemp plant Cannabis sativa have been known for centuries but only in the 90s membrane receptors for the Cannabis major principle were discovered in mammalian cells. Later on the endogenous ligands for the cannabinoid receptors were identified and the term 'endocannabinoid system' was coined to indicate the complex signaling system of cannabinoid receptors, endogenous ligands and the enzymes responsible for their biosynthesis and inactivation. The 'endocannabinoid system' is involved in a broad range of functions and in a growing number of pathological conditions. There is increasing evidence that endocannabinoids are able to inhibit cancer cell growth in culture as well as in animal models. Most work has focused on the role of endocannabinoids in regulating tumor cell growth and apoptosis and ongoing research is addressed to further dissect the precise mechanisms of cannabinoid antitumor action. However, endocannabinoids are now emerging as suppressors of angiogenesis and tumor spreading since they have been reported to inhibit angiogenesis, cell migration and metastasis in different types of cancer, pointing to a potential role of the endocannabinoid system as a target for a therapeutic approach of such malignant diseases. The potential use of cannabinoids to retard tumor growth and spreading is even more appealing considering that they show a good safety profile, regarding toxicity, and are already used in cancer patients as palliatives to stimulate appetite and to prevent devastating effects such as nausea, vomiting and pain."
